Coming off a regional finals appearance and a district championship, the girls soccer team headed into the new season with some high expectations. Lucky for them, despite the major losses they suffered in the offseason, which include the departure of forward Natalie Gilbert, outside midfielder Joanna Gomez, goalie Raquel Perez, and sweeper Haley Zidik, the girls soccer team is primed for yet another stellar season.
Returning this year to fill the void of talent is star striker Mariana Speckmaier, defender Ashley Waiters, and midfielder Sheridan Plummer. All of them are back with a renewed sense of responsibility and look to make huge strides in their game to ensure the team’s success.
The road to another winning season won’t be easy though. The girls soccer team faces a much more grueling schedule, one that now includes soccer powerhouses John A. Ferguson, South Dade, Ronald W. Regan/Doral, and Miami Killian.
The coach’s plan: to keep things simple.
“We’re just going to take things one game at a time,” said Coach Morales.
In doing so, the coach’s ultimate goal is to make it to states.
