Congratulations Mako Silver Knights

This year, MAST Academy was well represented at the Silver Knight awards ceremony. This prestigious award recognizes students that provide service to their community and school while keeping their grades up. The award is open to any student in Miami-Dade or Broward County as long as they have a unweighted GPA of 3.2. Awards are given to students in one of 15 categories. Our own Tiana Headley won the award for Social Science and Thalia Valdes and Kareem Joudi won honorable mentions. Winners receive $2,000, a Silver Knight statue, and a medallion; honorable mentions receive $500 and a medallion.

“It was a pleasant surprise winning this award. After listening to the amazing projects of the other students, I did not think i stood a chance; but I think the passion that I expressed about my project to the judges showed through as they were making their decision for the winner,” Headley said.

The MAST nominees for this year were Guillermina Abella for Art, Maria Amoedo de Sa for Athletics, Cameron Behar for Business, Rachel De Paz for Digital & Interactive Media, Chloe Schwinghammer for Drama, Chelsea Thomas for English & Literature, Kareem Joudi for General Scholarship, Thalia Valdes for Journalism, Gabriel Guanche for Mathematics, Ramy Hanna for Music & Dance, Nicolette Schurhoff for Science, Tiana Headley for Social Science, George Dotzler, Ajay Sukhwani for Vocational Technical, and Catalina Perez de Armiñan Pazos for World Languages.
