Sumi Yakitori: a twist on Japanese classics

Nestled deep in the heart of Brickell, you would never notice the tiny Japanese eatery of Sumi Yakitori if you were not looking for it. The first thing that catches your eye as you walk into the restaurant is the sushi bar, decorated with colorful bottles of Sake (a Japanese rice drink) and two huge Maneki Neko (lucky cats); there are also several Japanese banners hung outside and inside of the restaurant. It is quite a small restaurant with very few tables; most of the seating is around the open kitchen. The inside of the restaurant itself is reminiscent of an authentic Japanese restaurant. The prices are reasonable for Brickell but the quality of the food is what really makes this place stand out. There is a wide range of authentic Japanese dishes offered as well as a few specials that can only be found at Sumi. To name a few, Sumi offers Ramen, a traditional Japanese noodle dish, which has a thick broth with thin noodles, nori, veggies and your choice of protein (Chicken, beef, Pork belly, shrimp, or veggies) for $13.00, and a large portion of a delicious seaweed salad for $5.00. They also serve warm spring rolls, filled with fresh veggies and a side sauce, for $4.00. Vegetarian options range from their delicious vegetable soup, $7.00, to their stirfried garlic tofu and vegetables, $7.00 and $6.00 respectably. Sumi was a fantastic food experience; I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to try new Japanese food.
