Adele’s album tops charts

After a five year hiatus, Adele returned more powerful than ever with the release her third album, 25, on November 20. Leading up to the release of 25, Adele released her single “Hello,” which achieved the biggest first-week digital sales for a song in the U.S. after selling 1.11 million copies.
After announcing that she would take a break in 2012, Adele told Vogue, “If I am constantly working, my relationships fail. So at least now I can have enough time to write a happy record. And be in love and be happy.”
On October 19, 2012 Adele’s son Angelo was born. Adele said that she found it hard to find her voice after giving birth, and Madonna’s album Ray of Light helped her.
“You know what I found so amazing about that record? That’s the record Madonna wrote after having her first child, and for me, it’s her best,” Adele said.
Adele’s new album is a make-up album instead of a break-up album, with songs like “Remedy,” which is about a strong relationship rather than a failing one.
The album begins with “Hello,” a passionate, soulful ballad to her past lover. Her voice fluctuates between an ethereal whisper to a booming and epic chorus as she sings “Hello from the other side,” reminiscing about what she used to have.
Another song, “Water Under the Bridge” shows Adele’s growth as a person. Here she sings about a bad relationship that needs to end.
“When We Were Young” is a passionate song that describes running across a past lover and reflecting on to a time when they were happy.”
Towards the end of the song, she creates a light but haunting atmosphere as her background singers repeat “When we were young” as she hits fiery high notes throughout the chorus.
Included in the album is also a song dedicated to her son called “Sweetest Devotion,” which wins us over simply with Angelo’s warming laugh at the beginning.
Adele’s 25 is expected to sell more than a million copies in a single week, which would also instantly make it the largest selling album of 2015, surpassing Taylor Swift’s 1989, which sold approximately 1.74 million copies. If the sales of Adele’s album continue as expected, then it is set to break NSYNC’s U.S. album sales record. This isn’t hard to imagine considering Adele’s album was heralded a masterpiece before it was even released.
Adele’s album includes 11 songs and 3 other tracks if bought at Target. The album is currently available for download on iTunes for $10.99. Buy a box of tissues along with Adele’s new album, for her powerful voice will surely bring you to tears.
